Recreational League Rules & Regulations

 

Crystal Ice House’s Adult Recreational Hockey League program is designed for players 18 years of age and older that are beginner or novice skilled hockey players that want to play Hockey.  The objective of the League is to provide a place where players have fun while also developing their game skills. This a no check league.

 

Rules & Regulations

All USA Hockey playing rules will be enforced except as noted.

  • Each game will begin with a 5-minute warm-up period, Games begin immediately after.

  • Games will consist of three 16-minute running clock periods.

  • There will be a one-minute intermission between each period.

  • Each team will be allowed one 30 second time-out per game.

  • The only time the clock stops is for injuries.

  • All players must have their signature on the official roster sheet before playing. It is the player’s responsibility to sign the roster at the scorekeeper box before playing. A player will not be allowed to participate unless they sign in.

  • In the event of a regular season tie, the game ends in a tie.

  • Blue line icing will be observed.

  • The centerline will not be used for offsides (2-line pass is legal).

  • This is a no check league and body checking is not allowed Minor & Major Penalties will be assessed for body checking. Any intentional body check in a no check league will result in a game ejection. Any player who is penalized twice for this infraction may be ejected from the league.

  • Any player who receives 3 penalties will be suspended for the remainder of that game and will also receive a game misconduct and be suspended for 1 additional game. The second suspension in the same session will receive a 2-game suspension. The third suspension in the same session will receive a 3 - game suspension.  And so on.

  • A player who receives multiple game misconducts in a season may be expelled pending League Director's sole discretion.

  • Referees may hand out a game ejection penalty which does not carry an additional game suspension.

  • A player who has been ejected from the game may watch the game quietly. In the event a ejected player does not watch quietly they will receive additional game suspensions.

 

Uniforms

  • All players must wear non-altered assigned jerseys.  Subs wear the exact color or black/white. Pullovers are not allowed.

  • All players must wear full equipment which shall include gloves, shin pads, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hip pads or padded hockey pants, protective cup, and HECC approved helmet with helmet strap properly fastened.

  • Full cage required in all adult leagues

  • Helmets must be worn during warm-up and on the bench. Failure to comply may result in a 2-minute minor.

 

Standings

  • Win = 2 points, Tie = 1 point Loss = 0 points

  • If a tie occurs in points at the end of the regular season the following tie-breaking system will be used.

  • Goal differential (goals for – goals against)

  • Head- to head competition

  • More wins

  • Fewer losses

  • Fewer goals allowed in all games

 

Substitution Rules

Player substitutions will be allowed if a team is unable to field enough skaters for a game, Only registered league players will be allowed to substitute in a game. The League Director will coordinate with the team captain to arrange a substitute player.

 

If a non-registered substitute plays, and the League Director becomes aware of the substitute, the offending team will forfeit the game.

Substitute players will be required to serve any bench penalty (too many men) or any goalie assigned penalty.
